Convert PNG to ICO Online Free

An ICO file is what browsers use for the favicon.ico of a website and what Windows uses for program and folder icons. A single ICO can hold several sizes of the same picture, so the icon looks sharp both in a tiny browser tab and on a large desktop.

Start from a square PNG logo of at least 256 × 256 pixels with a transparent background. Tick the sizes you need: 16, 32, and 48 pixels cover favicons and most Windows uses, and 256 pixels is used for large icons. All of them are packed into one .ico file.

Transparency is kept in every size, and non-square images are centred on a transparent square instead of being stretched.

One Converter for Every Image Format

Phones, cameras, websites, and design apps all use different image formats. Instead of a separate tool for every pair, ToolCube converts any supported format to any other in one place: open an iPhone HEIC and save a JPG, turn a logo PNG into an ICO favicon, or shrink a large PNG into a WebP for your website.

Fast and Safe on Your Own Device

The conversion runs in a background process inside your browser, so the page stays responsive even with large photos and long batches. Decoders for formats such as HEIC, AVIF, and TIFF load only when you need them, and nothing is ever sent to a server.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to common questions about converting PNG to ICO.

Which sizes should a favicon.ico contain?

16 × 16 and 32 × 32 pixels are the essentials for browser tabs and bookmarks, and 48 × 48 is used by Windows. Those three are selected by default.

How do I add the favicon to my website?

Name the file favicon.ico and place it in the root folder of your site. Most browsers find it automatically; you can also link it with a link rel="icon" tag in the page head.

What if my PNG is not square?

The image is scaled to fit and centred on a transparent square, so nothing is stretched or cut off. For the best result, crop it to a square first.

Will the transparent background be kept?

Yes. Every size inside the ICO keeps full transparency, including soft edges.
